Mr Tea

Our story

A taste of home, across Yorkshire.

Mr Tea began with one man, a long way from home. Our founder grew up in Kaohsiung, on the south coast of Taiwan, and after years living in England he still missed the tea and the food he had known all his life.

You will have spotted him already — the fellow in the bamboo hat on our sign. For all those years away, nothing on the shelf here ever quite matched what he remembered: the milk tea from the stand on the corner, the hot salt-and-pepper chicken from the night market.

So he went looking for it. He travelled the length of Taiwan, north to south, city to small town, sitting down with tea growers and family-run suppliers, tasting and comparing until what he served was the real thing — exactly the way home tasted.

Whether you grew up on this tea or are trying boba for the first time, there is a cup here for you.

Straight from Taiwan

The flavour still comes from home.

That search never really ended. The heart of what we serve is still brought in from Taiwan, from the same kind of growers and family suppliers he first sat down with. The milk is fresh and local; the soul of the taste travels from home.

  • Tea leaves

Black, green and oolong, grown and rolled in Taiwan, then brewed fresh to order over here.

  • Pearls & toppings

Tapioca, taro, grass jelly and mochi — the textures a Taiwanese night market runs on.

  • Kitchen seasonings

The salt, pepper and plum blends that give our fried chicken its proper night-market taste.

How we make it

Brewed, never poured from a bottle

Loose leaves, brewed to order. The base of every drink is real tea.

Pearls cooked through the day

Small batches, so the tapioca stays soft with a proper chew. When a batch is past its best, we start again.

Made by hand, one cup at a time

Fruit cut fresh, milk cold and whole, every cup shaken to order. Slower, and worth it.

Come and taste for yourself.
